His citation record rests on a set of critical review articles that became reference points in their fields: green roofs, the uptake of BIM, green building rating systems, the energy performance of green buildings and urban heat island mitigation. Five of these have each been cited more than 500 times, and two more than 1,000 times. The record has continued to grow after his move into line management rather than plateauing: about two thirds of his citations have accrued since 2021, and 2025 was his highest single year. His most cited articles are listed under Most Cited Journal Articles.
